As soon as you are inside

Close windows and doors. Turn off fans, air conditioning and heating that pull in outside air.
If you were outside after fallout began: outer layer off, bag it, wash. Before you settle in.
Move to the safest spot: basement or the middle of the building.
Turn on a radio or check official alerts.
Bring pets inside and keep them in.
Text family where you are. Tell them to stay where they are.
Eat and drink only what was inside or sealed.
Ration the phone battery: radio for news, phone for short texts.

Shelter in a car or outdoors
Go out to collect kids from school
Watch from a window
Go to a pharmacy during fallout
Eat food that was outside, uncovered
Use hair conditioner after exposure
